Abel Tasman
Swim in some of NZ's clearest coastal water
About This Experience
The bays along Abel Tasman are sheltered by headlands from the open Tasman Sea, which keeps the water calm and remarkably clear for swimming most of the year — summer temperatures make it genuinely comfortable, not just scenic. Coquille Bay, Anchorage and Te Pukatea are among the most photographed swimming spots, with pale gold sand shelving gently into turquoise shallows. It's one of the few places in New Zealand where a beach day and a wilderness walk are the same trip.
