Queenstown
Birthplace of the commercial bungy jump
About This Experience
In 1988, AJ Hackett and Henry van Asch made the first commercial bungy jump off the Kawarau Gorge Suspension Bridge, turning a Vanuatu land-diving ritual into a global adventure sport almost overnight. The original 43m jump still runs from the same historic bridge, and jumpers can choose a standard harness or a touch-the-water option that dips just above the Kawarau River's turquoise surface. Higher and faster options — the Nevis and Ledge jumps — are also based in Queenstown.
