Milford Sound
Fur seals, dolphins and penguins on the water
About This Experience
New Zealand fur seals bask year-round on the rocks near Milford Sound's entrance, and bottlenose dolphins are frequent visitors to the fiord, sometimes riding a cruise boat's bow wave for the length of the trip. Fiordland crested penguins — one of the world's rarest penguin species — nest in the surrounding forest between July and December and can occasionally be spotted from the water during that window, making an early-season cruise worth timing around.
