Lake Tekapo & Aoraki
Church of the Good Shepherd at sunrise
About This Experience
Built from local stone and oak in 1935, the tiny Church of the Good Shepherd sits right on Lake Tekapo's shoreline, its plain altar window framing an uninterrupted view of turquoise water and the Southern Alps instead of stained glass. It's one of the most photographed buildings in New Zealand, especially at sunrise, when the church, lake and mountains all catch the first light together — arrive early, since it draws a steady stream of visitors through the day.
