Wellington
More cafés per capita than New York
About This Experience
Wellington has one of the highest cafés-per-capita ratios of any city in the world, a scene that grew out of Italian immigrant coffee houses in the mid-20th century and now spans everything from third-wave specialty roasters to old-school milk bars. Cuba Street is the epicentre — pedestrianised, lined with cafés, bars and record shops — but the whole inner city runs on coffee, and locals have strong, specific opinions about where to get the best flat white.
