About This Experience
Te Papa, New Zealand's national museum, is free to enter and covers everything from a giant colossal squid and a life-size blue whale skeleton to an award-winning exhibition on the Gallipoli campaign featuring giant hyper-realistic sculptures by Weta Workshop. Weta itself — the special effects and prop studio behind Lord of the Rings, Avatar and dozens of other films — runs its own studio tours a short drive from the city, showing off costumes, creatures and props from its 30-year history.
