Bay of Islands
Swim alongside wild dolphin pods
About This Experience
Bottlenose and common dolphins live year-round in the Bay of Islands, and licensed eco-cruises head out most days with a strong chance of a sighting — pods often ride the bow wave or leap alongside the boat for several minutes at a time. Depending on the season and dolphin behaviour on the day, swimming permits allow guided in-water encounters; when swimming isn't permitted, boats simply watch respectfully from a distance, which is still a highlight in itself.
